Seventh Street Station

Bank of America tapped us to create a ten-story parking deck for Seventh Street Station in Uptown Charlotte. We brought in the Charlotte Arts and Science Council to help combine public art with urban architecture for this project. Rather than create a bland, utilitarian parking deck, we incorporated 416 dynamic painted panels and 20-foot hand-activated torchieres that light up and play a series of musical notes composed by Christopher Janney. The result is a functional, artistic and playful parking deck that provides an interactive experience for its users.

The value

Seventh Street Station was the result of a collaboration we facilitated between Bank of America and the Arts and Science Council. The result was an interactive public arts installation, which elevated the parking deck from mundane concrete slabs to an interactive public arts installation. It set the precedent for future building owners and developers to place a higher degree of importance on integrating design and public art in developing the uptown urban landscape.
